The Survival of a Sea Turtle - Liv

 

Did you know that the sea turtles have survived over 150 million years? They have been alive since the dinosaurs were around, in fact they are dinosaurs. People in the world are trying to keep the number of sea turtles high because of their life cycle and the human interference.

First the cycle will begin by a sea turtle laying 1000 eggs about the size of a ping pong ball high on the beach. Then 1 and a half months later they will hatch and will be about the size of your hand if not smaller. Out of the 1000 that were laid only 800 will ever hatch.

That 800 that had hatch will then try to make it to the water, because the are laid high on the beach. Sadly only 400 make it. Because of the birds, crabs and other predators that will eat or take them.

Once they reach the water they will try to make it past the predators in the sea, such as bull sharks, great whites and the killer whale. Then they will find a piece of seaweed to settle under as well as taking breaths and finding some small food. After several months of that of living under some seaweed the will be about the size of a dinner plate. Now, they can move around more and eat a little but bigger fish. Over the next couple of years the leather back species will be the size of a dinner table, once they are that size they will move on and try to overcome the weather and only 200 make it to that stage.

Finally in the end the sea turtle will have to survive the oil spills and the nets of us humans. Only 20 make it to breeding season that is without human interference and 2 finish the cycle and lay 1000 eggs. The cycle then starts all over again. In conclusion a sea turtle lays it eggs, the eggs hatch, they make there way to the beach, they survive the ocean, then they mature and finally they breed. It starts at 1000 then make it to 2 within several years. Please help save these animals by not put nets into the water or be more careful we travelling oil across the sea.
